Banana Festival Parade, Murwillumbah – Saturday 21st August This is also our First Birthday!
Story Dogs will be marching again this year. In 2009 we had 4 dogs, so in 2010 we would love to shock everyone in Murwillumbah with heaps of dogs marching. It is only a short walk down the Main St and up Wollumbin Street in Murwillumbah. There is a great carnival atmosphere, with the parade ending in Knox Park where there is lots of entertainment, food stalls, craft stalls and much more! Let’s show the Tweed how much we have grown!!! and stay for some birthday cake.
Story Dogs Day – Wednesday 8th September (International Literacy Day)
This will be our major fundraising day for the year. It will be promoted to all participating schools as a mufti day, with gold coin donations required. We would like you to promote this day as much as possible. If your day for Story Dogs does not fall on a Wednesday it would be wonderful if you could ‘pop in’ for the morning assembly and have fun being a Story Dog ambassador. The kids will be asked to either dress up as a dog, bring a dog themed book in or dress in orange for the day. We are planning to have some media coverage of the day as well. Any ideas are most welcome.
Fundraising Party – date to be confirmed, possibly October?
A wild, let your hair down, party at Leah and Neroli’s house in Murwillumbah. There will be entertainment, raffles, auctions and fun!
Murwillumbah Show – November; probably 5th, 6th and 7th . Murwillumbah Show Grounds
Story Dogs will have a stand with the aim of raising awareness, recruiting new volunteers and raising funds. Any existing volunteers are very welcome to give us a hand or come and say hello.
Story Dogs Presentation Day – Saturday November 20th 2pm – 4pm , Murwillumbah Show Grounds – Tea House
This event is our chance to recognize the fantastic efforts put in by our volunteers, dogs, teachers, principals, sponsors, committee members and supporters. It will also highlight the success of the program with some of the biggest winners (the kids!) giving us their perspective on the program. We will have entertainment and refreshments.
Story Dogs is seeking more volunteers who have a well behaved, obedient, child friendly dog and would like to spend a few hours a week helping kids discover the love of reading.
